Veneers Treatment Timeline

For patients with healthy smiles, placing veneers at our Santa Fe dentist office serving Española and Santa Fe County can be completed in as little as two appointments:
"Porcelain veneers can give you a new smile in just two appointments."
"Porcelain veneers can give you a new smile in just two appointments."

Consultation and Exam

During your initial appointment, Drs. Jensen and Elledge can answer any questions you have about veneers so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment. Depending on your current state of oral health, you may require preparatory procedures first. Issues such as tooth decay and gum disease will need to be treated before proceeding with dental veneers. In these cases, our dentists can develop a treatment plan that includes the care you need to restore your candidacy.

Tooth Preparation

The surface of each tooth receiving a veneer will need to have a small amount of enamel removed. This allows the ultra-thin porcelain shells to fit perfectly in your smile. Our doctors will then take impressions of your teeth. These impressions will be sent to our dental lab where your veneers will be custom-crafted.

Temporary Veneers

To protect your prepared teeth while your permanent veneers are being made, our doctors will place temporary veneers for you to wear during the next couple of weeks. Since your temporary veneers will be similar to your permanent restorations, this time allows you to get used to the feel and fit of your new smile.

Fabrication

It takes about two weeks for the dental lab to create your new porcelain veneers. Constructed by a master ceramist, your veneers will be color-matched to your smile and crafted to fit perfectly over each tooth.

Checking the Fit

Once your new dental veneers are ready, you will return to our office. Our doctors will test-fit your veneers and make any necessary final adjustments.

Placement

Following any final adjustments, once you and our doctors are happy with the fit and appearance of your new veneers, they will be bonded to your teeth using an incredibly strong dental cement. After the cement is cured and any excess is removed, you will be able to enjoy your beautiful new smile.
